19th century
Wood
L. 42 cm

"Originating from the coastal region of the Sepik and Ramu Rivers this highly complex neckrest belongs to a corpus of about ten known specimens. It most closely relates to the example in the National Museum in Copenhagen, which was given to them in 1906. Both have attenuated Janus heads with a stylized totemic lizard beneath. The hanging figures are also similar in their triangulation of the body and head." (Conru 1999:33)
