Typically an image of Eshu is atop the border of the divination tray; in this tray, there are four images of Eshu, peering in four directions. Also shown are images of the tribal chief, the diviner, animals copulating, the hunter, a mudfish and various design patterns. In the divination ritual, the diviner would spread a white powder on the board and draw on powder the pattern he identified in the sixteen palm nuts that earlier had been tossed onto the ground (see TC 258).
