"The Gona is filled with a ritual oil which is extracted from the Pfuta tree and mixed with herbs and other substances. The spirits are believed to live in the vapor of the substance. They serve as a vehicle by which an ancestral spirit may be contacted. The spirit "residing" in a vessel is called upon by the Nyanga (spiritual healer) during the divination." (Knobkerry nd)
