Kono is a secret society that is represented by wild beasts and mythical bush spirits. They are dangerous, omnipotent forces that resolve conflicts, keep social order and must be placated through ritual and performance.

The masks, such as this one associated with Kono, are worn by a dancer whose costume is covered in feathers. The Kono imposes justice, and fosters female and agricultural fecundity.
